Just call me Merida

Happy Halloween!

After 300 years, right down to the day. . . the Sanderson sisters. . .

Meet Mary Sanderson. . .
This is Jovey's 'witch face'.

 Meet Sarah Sanderson. . .

Meet Winnifred Sanderson. . .

And here is MASTER. . .

There were too many people who had never seen the movie.  Sad times.  Missing out on a classic!  I couldn't be mad at those poor souls that thought I was Merida.  I must pity them.  ;)

It's just a bunch of Hocus Pocus!

Boomerang

Instagram came out with a new app, called Boomerang.  It's fun to play with.  Here is a sampling from Dave's phone. . .

Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni

The weekend. . .

First we found this Italian ice place in town.  And then we found out that they close for the winter, so we are totally bummed.  I could eat it year round!  Fine, we'll be back Kilo's.

And then came one of Miley favorite holiday traditions. . . carving pumpkins!  She loves it.  Nobody is afraid of pumpkin guts here.  Ok, well Jovey opted to paint hers instead, but that was because I don't let her use knives.

Everyone came up with their own design.  I suggested we all do self portraits, you can judge for yourself if we went through with that plan.  Miley sketched out a lot of options, as did Dave.  Jovey and I had a different approach, just hack into it.

Jovey was very disappointed when she no longer had space to paint.  Should have bought a bigger pumpkin.

Miley added some blood to hers after the carving was complete.  So now her pumpkin is happy about having a head wound.

Dave went with his trademarked tooth look and some scream eyes.

I decided to carve the side of mine and then couldn't put the scraper tool down.

Jovey was disappointed hers didn't light up, so it has a candle sitting on top of it.  That satisfied her.

Loving our spooky house this year!

*Michelangelo was Italian and he carved things. . . you know so it totally works for a title on this one. . . just in case that wasn't obvious in the beginning.

Fall break dancing

We have a little fall break from school around here.  Lots of people take off earlier and make it a long fall break.  Those people head to California usually.  We are not those people.  Fall break is a busy time of year for the husband at work.  He gets no fall break, so we made it a stay-cation.

Any break is a good break.

Here is our busy schedule of events. . .

Front room popcorn picnic watching Inside Out!

 At home pedicures

When all the tennis courts were full, we went to plan B, which was of course a walk/hike.  We're really good at those.  ;)  The dogs loved it though, so I'm calling it a win.

 Face time dance party

Sidewalk chalk and hopscotch lessons

Finally got some court time, and it rained on us.  Still played though, and it felt great.

That's how you fall break without a beach.

I guess we could have gone to the beach, but my sister will argue that a beach at a lake is not in fact a beach.  Whatever.

Next time, beach it is.

Yesterday all my trouble seemed so far away

Today

Today. . . I gave my dog the heimlich because she thought she could swallow whole a giant piece of pork.   Scary.

Today. . . I am glad that I was paranoid enough to research such things as dog cpr.

Today. . . I have to decide how I want to seal the Grinch.

Today. . . I am sad that I'm done painting the Grinch already.

Today. . . I have to find an outfit for Miley to wear for family pictures.

Today. . . I need to tell Britt we need to schedule our family pictures.  Hey Britt. . .

Today. . . I sneezed my last sneeze. . . for this cold.  I'm calling it now.  It's over.  I'm practically healed.

Today. . . I am being positive like that.  It may only last today.  Crap, or just long enough to type the first part of this.

Today. . . I need to go pick up Jovey's new bed, so she'll finally stop saying mattress!

Today. . . Jovey wants me to paint her white bed red.  Hmmmm.

Today. . . It's time to give my front door a facelift.  I'm going to buy a glaze.  I think.  It looks so sad now.

Today. . . I'm not going to tell the HOA my plans for my door.  They'll never notice.  Fingers crossed.

Today. . . I put away the sunscreen on the counter.  I leave it there all summer, because it's needed too often to ever put it away.  Hello Fall.

Today. . . I wanted to wear jeans, but temps in the 90s does not sound compatible with jeans.

Today. . . I made a mop, but not a vacuum. . . and Jo will never forgive me for it.

Today. . . I made a cauldron for Jo instead.  Hopefully that helps.

Today. . . Jovey told me she wants to invite the dogs to her birthday tea party so we need to buy 'dog biscuits.'

Today. . . I'm painting a skeleton flamingo.

Today. . . I met the speech therapist.  She seems really nice, and Jo likes her.

Today. . . I'm trying to decide if I need a Max to go with my own Grinch decoration this Christmas.

Today. . . I need to stop telling Miley my ideas for her Halloween party.  She's not enthusiastic enough.  Jaded second graders.  Great.

Today. . . I'm bummed to find out the trunk or treat and party will be the day before Halloween.  Why?  I don't want to do it twice in a row.  Oh the candy.  Ugh.

Today. . . I'm glad the skirt I made for Miley didn't fall to pieces at church.

Today. . . I must resist the urge to finish Miley's Reflections painting.

Today. . . I need to order more chapstick.  Cause I'm running low. . . of my favorite kind.

Today. . . I am out of glass glue, and Miley broke my cake stand.  Dang it.

Today. . . I decided to file some more paperwork with USCIS to request a return of Jovey's original documents.  (the packet we gave to immigration, but didn't get to see ourselves)

Today. . . I remembered how much I hate government paperwork.

Today. . . I want to watch Inside Out again, but I don't think it will be available until late tonight.

Today. . . I learned that buying the same things from stores other than Costco does not equate to the same things.  Weird.

Today. . . I saw how going without TV all week makes Miley turn into a zombie when the TV happens to be on, even if it's a diaper commercial.

Today. . . I realized I didn't do any scrapbooking type behavior for this year.  That's a lot of catch up coming.

Today. . . I should take pics of my Halloween decorations, because I usually do it.

Today. . . I drank a Squirt. Mmmm soda.

Today. . . I have paint under my fingernails. . .

I know what you're thinking

It's my favorite time of year, and I've posted nothing.  Well almost nothing.  Yeah I know.

My level of busy-ness has busted off the charts and now I have a little cold.  Too busy = head cold.   Blech.

Are you ready for some busy belly-aching?  Come on, it's all I got today.  And I'm sick.  Click away if you must, but I feel obligated to post something.  ;)

No one signed up to help with Miley's class parties, well except me.  I just barely found this out, when I was asked to get their Halloween party in the works.  This should be fun.

So Jovey has a stutter, which is totally normal for a kid her age, but since people keep commenting on it I thought I'd check it out.  Of course, to do so I have to go through a stupid government early intervention or something program.  I can't just go to a doctor.  I checked.  So we've had a number of appointments to evaluate her and see if she has any delays.  Which she doesn't, and I told them they were wasting their time.  They did anyway, she's brilliant and healthy, just has sticky words sometimes.  Another two more appointments and then I'll get to see an actual speech pathologist to get their opinion.  I'm ready to quit this nonsense.  She's fine.  I probably know enough from the internet anyway.  ;)

I had to Nebbercracker some kids the other day.  Trying to play with my Halloween decorations.  Seriously?!  I'm going to add more blood and guts next year.  My house is too friendly.

I have sworn to never return to the doctor!  After a whole morning waiting I found out that my great toe, that's what the call the big one, isn't broken and that x-ray machines don't like glitter nail polish.  Dave made me go to the doctor, cause well I couldn't move or feel my toe.  Turns out I had a lot of swelling around the tendon and after a few weeks of meds and ice I can now feel and move it once again.  Who knew.  I was ok either way, but Dave and the doc were insistent that I should be able to use the thing.  Whatever.

In other falling apart news. . . my hip joint is locked.  Ow!

Thank you chiropractor for that info.  I have no problem going to the chiropractor because they actually see you in a timely manner.  Appointment times are not a guesstimate or suggestion.  Weird.  And yet it seems so normal.

I just noticed I have paint up my arm.  This happens too often.  ;)  Almost done with a Grinch for a friend.  Since I put up my Halloween decorations I can't get to my partially started/completed canvas in the living room anymore.  So it's been good to have another project to paint.  Paint = therapy.  It's like yoga for people with locked hip joints.  Ugh.

Jo has been waking me up too bloody early in the morning.  After her tapping, and my undoubtably morning person happy response of Whaaaaaat. . . she says, 'I love you too, Mommy.'  And then I feel bad for wanting to push her off my bed.

Jovey told me the other day while I was doing her hair, 'Mom, you're doing a crappy job.'  It's fun to hear things you've said parroted back at ya like that.  She is really bad at cleaning up her toys though, so it's totally deserved.  ;)  Her hair on the other hand, looked fantastic, so whatever.

Miley said she got a red card after her eye test at school.  I have no idea what that means.  No note came home afterward, but Miley was sure it meant really bad things.  So we took her to the eye doc.  Why not.  We need more appointments.  The end result. . . well she's pretty much fine, but after reading a lot she could get eye strain because her eye muscles are kinda wimpy.  She had FUN finding some reading glasses.  She looks really cute in them too, but so far she only wears them to be cute and forgets when she's actually doing her homework or reading.  Totally worth it.

Halloween decorations are up and still standing.  Only one casualty. . . a spell book that couldn't take the constant use.  Not the BOOK, but another one.  Oh and two painted skeletons lost parts.  I tossed them though, no use trying to fix that which will be broken over and over again.  Sigh.  Kids.

The girls are determined to MEMORIZE the movie Hocus Pocus.  They are totally killing my favorite movie for me.  Oh and Jo keeps singing 'This is Halloween', or ya know, some of it over and over again.  October is going by rather slowly.  ;)

Ok, complaints complete, well done for now cause I really need some more cough syrup.  ;)

Don't worry my Halloween spirit will be back once the cough syrup kicks in or by the time I need it for the end of the month.
