No guts, no salty deliciousness

I HEART pumpkin carving! I could have carved three more pumpkins. However, this year, three was what we did. . . and that produced enough seeds for us to last awhile! I baked them yesterday and now my house smells delightfully of salt and pumpkin!

Miley gets the credit for the high art pumpkin of The SCREAM. Dave fulfilled our themed pumpkin requirement with JACK Skeleton. I was left with the 'less desirable' job (only to Dave who doesn't like to get his hands dirty) of dealing with the BLOODY pumpkin. It did stain my fingers a little. My pleasure! Though I think it needs some more blood still!

Please don't stay away long. We miss you!

These pics were from our time spent at the park on Monday. . . sadly the last two days have been frigid.

Miley loved being up high on the caterpillar toy. Dave showed her how to bounce on it and she was a big fan. She also loves watching the dogs run in the grass. . . but when they run to her she gets a little nervous. Nilla has been so excited to see her before that she jumped up to her and toppled little Miley. . . even then Miley was happy for the attention, but it makes her apprehensive to have it happen again. And of course, one of the best toys at the park are the rocks. She has to pick up some of those, and pull the grass too. Fun times.

It's all about the atmosphere

I ran out of time this year to add more to my outside display, but I have big plans for next year. There are still a couple things to add this year. . . the pumpkins! And I have a feeling they could be extra spooky this time!

Thoughts today

1. I've got to say that kids shows on TV are a little obnoxious today. Maybe they've always been this way. I haven't watched them since the 80s so who knows. There are two shows, however, that I think are delightful and those are 'Olivia' and 'Charlie and Lola'. I can't stand the shows with grown men acting childish, or the freakish giant puppets. Also, what's with the hugely drawn out pauses to ask the audience questions every five seconds? Do we really want to teach our kids to talk to inanimate objects? Weird.

2. Read this interesting article about immunizations the other day. Keep thinking about it. It was so well written that I am still impressed. I would try and explain it a little, but I could never do it justice. This is one of those subjects where I just want to stand up yell it off my soapbox. But I won't. Instead I'll just say "immunize your kids" it will protect us all.

3. The cord on my blinds broke. . . a second incidence actually. I'm wondering if we've come to the point with our home where things start to break down. . . and since all the houses in the area were built at the same time are we all going to experience this together. Should the first house just call maintenance and send them door to door down the street?

4. We haven't been able to get rid of this cold bug in our house. I'm in the lead with three times, Miley gets second with two and I think Dave's working on 1 and a half. I guess I'm just competitive like that. Each cold manifests itself slightly differently. I'm trying to figure out who to blame for this. Dave is an obvious suspect. He's around sick people daily, maybe he's a carrier and drops it off at home. Should I be suspecting my house cleaning? Maybe I'm just not killing all the germs? Hmmm. The weather is just too nice here to blame, so I'm thinking it's those dang snowbirds that travel down from the sickly-cold north that are bringing the disease. Just a theory.

5. Shutterfly has this nice little option to share your pics with others. I have a couple different share sites which I've been using forever, thinking they were awesome and handy. Today I found that I could check who else has been taking advantage of my sites and was disappointed to see that no one thought they were as cool as I did. OK, maybe two people. Sad. It does however, ease the guilt of having a TON of pics that need to be edited gathering cobwebs. Oh well. That's the end of that. No more wasting my time there.

6. When do the terrible twos hit? Is it at exactly two, because I think we're getting a preview. Miley has figured out that she has the same girth as Nilla and can squeeze under the gate to our bedroom. Fun times. She can open doors, any door, well except the patio, but she's trying. I realize these things are just skills that she has learned and not in themselves inherently naughty, but she can wield them with expert slyness as to prove she knows she's going to get her full name out of Mama in a slightly elevated tone! Where is Miley now? Time out. Yep. Don't worry, just for a minute or two.

7. In Miley's baby book I did pages for her characteristics each month, but I only went to 12 months. I'm kind of missing them now. She does so many new things, and funny things that I'm sad I won't have them all recorded.

8. Not looking forward to the time change. Thinking about moving to Arizona because of it. I hate that it screws up Miley's schedule. Her internal clock is not set up to deal with Ben Franklin's grand plan.

9. Going to teach Miley to color today. Well, we're going to attempt it. Hasn't been done yet, and I'm really excited for her to actually use art stuff! I've been waiting forever for her to grow big enough to do it. . . yes I realize she might not care about it just yet.

There are thirteen days until Halloween!
Good thing I checked or I would have missed this day of the countdown.

a couple weeks left

I should have had a Halloween ticker up or something, because I don't have any idea what the actual date is today or how many days until Halloween. All I know is that it is too soon. I'm not ready. I shouldn't still have projects to be done, but I do. Here's the rundown. . .It could be worse I guess. . . these projects are in various stages of completion, but not nearly close enough to call mostly done.These pieces are pretty much completed, just a few more details and specifics to add.


The DONE list is a little short. . . and I even started months in advance. Too many other projects get in the way, and I keep adding more. Hmmm. The good news is that I got my decorations up outside this year. The bad news is that I definitely need more, it is not spooky enough. I'd like it to be themed to our costumes, but that doesn't seem entirely possible at the moment. I don't think people will understand our costumes anyway. Oh well, won't be the first time. ;)

More scariness here. . . Peeping Tom's, or animals. . . whatever.
My office window is attracting unwanted attention from the wild. Shudder. Come on the bird's a little freaky, right? OK, maybe it doesn't translate on the pic, but it totally made my dogs bark. It was that BIG.
