Two years ago we celebrated this holiday in an airport in Washington DC, and I got to admit just thinking about that makes me fill up with emotion. . . and nausea. 20 hours on a plane can do that to you, even years later. It's fun to celebrate Jovey's US citizenship on a day full of flags and fireworks. Perfect timing. Then we slept in a hotel in Virginia the whole day and night, this time around we opted for more americana. I don't know, maybe sleeping is americana. ??
And then I thought, hey we should make ice cream. . . and Dave said, we could do that and still have time to go to the pool. Yeah, it's been awhile since we've pulled this out, and we kinda forgot how long it takes and how awful it is to wait around for. . .
So we didn't make it to the pool, but we still managed to get Miley really wet.

The girls HAD to have matching shirts this year. I picked out some cute coordinating ones, but they would not have it. Twinners, always, if there is a choice, twinners.
After ice cream, which was delish thanks for asking. . . I really am turning into Dave. Crap. It was time for fireworks, and by time, I mean almost darkish or mostly lightish but my girls were impatient.
Jovey held this one sparkler and then wanted nothing more to do with them. The poppers she enjoyed immensely after she warmed up her throwing arm.
Dave would not hold the fireworks any closer so they could be in the picture. I guess after last year's fiasco with flames, we might all be a little gun shy.
Exhibit B. . . Miley in pants.
So we only bought four fireworks. They were bigger, but not supposed to shoot up and explode in the sky. We had enough of those malfunctions. Dave picked them out and I assumed read what they were, but you know what they say about people who assume. . .
The last and biggest firework started out nicely and then shot up and exploded. The girls also shot up and ran behind their dad. So much for being a trauma free event. ;) The firework flipped itself all the way over and continued it's spurting and exploding into the sky. No injuries, no further malfunctions. It was very pretty, and probably would have been more so had it been dark out. We may have waited an extra amount of time to see if it was truly done.
I didn't come prepared with patriotic music on my phone, and my wifi doesn't reach outside so well. . . so we may have listened to Katy Perry's Firework during our show. ;)
We were finished and then the sun set, and it was a much better show than we could have ever done.
(these sisters sure do love each other!)
Dave must be rubbing off on my cause I took a picture of our food. Who does that? Oh right, foodies. I am not a foodie, but our grilled lunch was fantastic. Mushroom swiss burgers, corn on the cob and some salads. Mmmmm. Well done Davey.
