The actual birthday . . . week

We partied like it was my birthday, most of the week.  Here are some highlights. . .

My sister sent me a lemony yellow party in a box, including a selfie stick. . . so stay tuned for more annoying selfies. (It was only a day late, record time!  It was in good company as well, thanks parents and baby sister, the 19th was special.) ;)

Dave got super fancy somehow and made a beautiful and SWEET table for my birthday surprise.

We went to When You Wish at Tuacahn.  It was fabulous and Miley was awestruck the whole time.

Ribs, and fried green tomatoes were devoured.  Miley told our waitress it was my birthday and so I also had creme brulee with a candle to blow out.

Dave bought me some more markers.  He's very good at asking me what I want and then getting it.  ;)  Miley picked out lots of jewelry for me to wear.  She thinks I need to be much fancier.

We also went swimming a lot.  Experienced deja vu in the movie theater watching Jurassic World with some cool people we know.  And got stomachaches from eating so many treats.  It was a great week like that.

Thank you for the birthday wishes sent.  Thanks to Eldena for the gift card that will be put to use making Halloween costumes soon! ;)  I appreciated the cards and the love.  Until next year. . . I don't have it in me to keep celebrating the rest of the month.  Dave killed us on the sugar and it is tooooooo hot.  Next year I'll remember to pace myself.  ;)

entertaining girlies

Jovey came out dressed in Miley's fancy Belle dress.  I told her she looked like a beautiful princess.  She gave me the stink eye and said, 'No, queen.'  Oh sorry your highness.  'Yeah, I'm QUEEN.'  Wowza, attitude.
(shopping for Mom's birthday is soooooo hard)

Jo is a daddy's girl.  All day long she'll tell me that she, 'misses daddy too much.'  And then she'll ask what time he comes home from work, like she knows how to tell time.  I had to drag her out of bed in the morning to get Miley to school, but now she's up at 6am when we can actually sleep in.  What a poop.
(sunbathing/napping)

(tan lines, even though I doused them with sunscreen)

Miley is trying to teach Jovey how to read.  Miley is writing songs and wants Jo to sing them with her.  She is not such a good teacher.  "Fine, I'm just going to rip this to pieces." It may be a long summer indeed.  ;)

(bug girls)

Miley still has no concept of time or geography.  States, cities, countries, yeah they mean nothing.  The whole world is one place for her.  And I sing "We are the world" every time she confuses something.  I'm a really good teacher too.  ;) I should probably buy her a globe, but then we wouldn't get to sing like Michael Jackson as often.  Hmmmm.  And if you ask her when something happened, her answer is equally mystifying.  Maybe she will figure out the time travel thing since every lesson with calendars and clocks flies right through her ears unaffected.

(Nilla camoflauge)

Miley is really into music lately.  Which means, Jovey is also really into music.  They may sing 'Shut up and Dance' a lot.  Adam Levine would be proud to hear them belt out 'Sugar' as well, though maybe not Jo's version because she thinks his voice is much higher than her own.  I need to get a video.  I'm just happy that I don't have to listen to the Frozen music constantly, but maybe them singing shut up lots isn't the best song for their little vocabularies.  ;)

(the duck whisperer)

We went to a park, that is more like the wild to our girls than a park.  We learned that we have bonafide city girls on our hands.  Jo complained that the ducks in the pond were too loud.  Miley was sure something touched her foot.  And walking on the DIRT trail around the thing made them both wish for outdoor equipment which they listed extensively.  Apparently we needed a tent for this adventure. . . on Main street, in city limits, a couple blocks from ice cream.  Oh my.

(kissy face selfie)

And because no girlie post would be complete without a Dave story, here you are. . .  So I strive to scare D out of the crap as often as possible.  It's a challenge, because now he expects it.  The other night I reached out as he walked past the door and he did this strange karate hands move and made a gurgling noise.  I was sure I failed and he was being a dork to mock me.  He then called me a buttface and said his heart was racing.  What the?  I win?!  And what the? Why was your reaction ninja goobalicious (yeah I using that word cause I know you know what I mean)?  I didn't know I married a ninja!  I feel so much safer now in the event of an emergency.  I couldn't stop laughing.  I may live forever now.  I told Miley about his ninja skills and she's already zinged him with it a few times.  So proud.

I was feeling a tad bit guilty for all the laughing I did, so I asked Dave if it was ok that I put this story on the blog.  He said I could if I posted two nice things about him as well.  And he also said that they didn't have to be true.  ;)  So here ya go hon. . . he has the best sense of humor, obviously since he lets me tease him here on the blog. . . a lot.  He also can't help but buy me white daises any time he sees them because he knows they are my favorite and will make me smile.  He's the best like that.

(Miley insisted I take a pic of her Dad with ice cream too)

the sad neglected blog

Randomly me in June. . .

So I learned that it will forever be Dave's job to deal with customer service issues.  He has much better luck than I do.  I get stuck on hold for hours and then always get the newbie who needs supervisor permission to look at the computer screen and then permission to type anything too.  I spent all morning trying to fix an issue, which took Dave 5 minutes to handle the next day.  I passed out (therefore gave up) from explaining things to the idiot nice person and turned it over to Dave, who has agreed that I am cursed and will no longer have that responsibility.

I don't want Miley to go to school anymore.  I think four years is sufficient knowledge (2 years of preschool totally count).  It has been so nice having her home all day.  I admit, I was a little worried that she would be bored without school, but no, she's sunshine and lollipops.  No stress.  No homework.  Happy helpful sister.  I'm never letting her leave again.

We are minutes away from our unbearable summer weather.  It is supposed to reach 100 within a week.  So far we still have our cooler evenings and I will be so sad to see them go. . . but then I guess we get nighttime swimming so it will have to do.  With the heat comes the fires and I am developing an irrational fear of them.  They've never been as bad as they were the first year we moved here, but still. . . Freaky.  I decided to be proactive about it this year and make emergency bags.  I'm pulling them together and hopefully that will help.

Jovey is bawling, because her favorite dress is in the laundry.  Where did these girlie girls come from?  I guess it's my fault.  I bought them all the dresses.  If you needed a gift idea for either of my girls, play dresses, dress up dresses, or fancy nightgowns will be a BIG hit.

My giant canvas is still blank.  I have a plan.  It's drawn up and everything, but I also have a lot of books checked out from the library.  So far the books have won.  I want to paint, but sitting and enjoying a book hasn't happened so much this year so. . . maybe it will eventually bother me that my decoration is decor less.

I started buying Halloween stuff.  Yep.  I couldn't stop myself.  I have much to make and it brings much joy.  Costumes are being pieced together.  I have to sew.  Yeah, my favorite.  That's why I'm starting so early.  I think Dave loves having the most complicated costume, but this year his will be the easiest.  I broke it to him already.  Tears were shed.  He'll survive not being the center of attention for one year.

I finally signed Miley up for swim lessons.  I think she's ready to do it.  Every time I thought about it previously it gave me an ulcer.  My experience with swim lessons left a chlorinated taste in my mouth that I have yet to shake when I think back on it.  ;)  It may drive Jovey crazy to not be doing it with her.  We shall see.

Dave got me this polaroid zink printer.  It connects to my phone wirelessly and lets me print these cute little 2x3 pics on polaroid film, so no ink.  It's so fun.  The girls love them.  Now I have to figure out what to do with all these little pictures.

I really want to make these GIANT photostrips from Social Print Studio.  I don't know where I would put them, but I so need some.

I believe in climate change.  Well, I believe climate changes for whatever reason (fairies, the rotation around the sun, etc), cause I've seen it.  We've lived here 10 years, I think, and it wasn't until last year that our hill in the backyard started melting.  Eroding down on us because we've had some impressively intense rain storms.  The first time it happened they said it was a 100 year storm.  Yeah, and then it happened again the next year, twice.  Maybe we time traveled.  200 years later. . . We built up our retaining wall last year to keep the mudslide at bay, but we're already reaching the top of the new barrier.  We will have to add more.  I don't want to add more rock to the hill, that's just too much, so instead we'll just have a giant wall in our backyard eventually. . . or we'll move.  On the plus side, my plants are looking fabulous.

Now that the waterfall is all spiffed up and refurbished I feel done with projects around the house.  Which means, I don't want to paint any rooms, even though it was on the list.  Maybe when it cools down again. . . . I don't know.  I hate painting walls.  Who likes to do that anyway?

Nilla went to check out the new waterfall to get a drink and due to new and unfamiliar splash patterns ended up soaked.  I don't think she likes the new setup.

Dave bought something to decorate the house for my birthday.  This is a first.  It makes me nervous.  I don't think he's ever decorated anything.  He even tried to hide the box of stuff from me. . . by putting it in our closet with a blanket partially on top.  Yeah, it was subtle.  ;)  I, however, did not peek, which proves that I am stronger than my genes.  ;)

Miley asked me how old I was going to be this year, and I told her that I didn't know, and go ask Dad.  Honestly, I don't keep track anymore.  I'm just celebrating for the cake anyway.  Lemon cream. . . mmmmmmm!

So if you don't see me here in awhile we can blame: my need to read mountains of books, the heat sapping my strength, my birthday celebrating getting out of hand, too much cake, early morning swimming lessons, or maybe I'm tackling my list of projects.

Writer's block could be the main reason though.

the big chop

After much pleading for short hair, I finally caved.  I LOVE her long hair, but I imagine it must be pretty hot and heavy to carry around that much hair.  Then there are the tangles, and the not being able to wash it without help. . . and the sitting on it, or having other people sit on it.  Yeah her Rapunzel hair had some issues.

She was sooooooo excited, but then kinda nervous when we got right down to it.  Jovey was bawling, but not because Miley was cutting her hair, but because she didn't get to do it as well.  Miley is her hero after all.

She felt so grown up going to a real hair stylist.  She may never think I am cool enough to cut her hair again.  ;)  Since she was in the hot seat she also asked for pink curly hair.  Stylists can do anything she told me.

15 inches later and we have one lighter head and less shedding in my house I've noticed.

We talked about where to donate her hair.  I did some research into it and found three possible places, Pantene Beautiful Lengths, Locks of Love and Wigs for Kids.

Locks of Love had some rumors going around saying they sold their hair, and it's kind of true, not all their wigs are free and some of the hair they receive is sold for funds instead.  Pantene only makes adult wigs, but requires the shortest cut amount compared to the other two.  Wigs for Kids makes wigs for kids, obviously, and they are free to them, but also requires at least 12 inches of hair.

Miley wanted her hair to go to a kid and since she had plenty of it we decided to donate to Wigs for Kids.

She was excited to send off her hair, which she happily explained to the grouchy guy working at the post office.  He was unimpressed.  I could have punched him in the face.  She was not deterred and has since told pretty much everyone we have encountered.  The check out lady at Target was very happy for her.  ;)

Miley loves her short hair, but told me she'd like to grow it long again so she can cut it off and send it to make more wigs.  I wonder how long that will take.
