hair identity
When you have long hair it's a more passive personality. I've lost you haven't I? Come on you know you've given thought to hair length vs. personality. Who doesn't think about these things? It's a totally normal thing to do and not at all a waste of time. ;)
I think there is an expectation when you see people with short hair that they are more daring/adventurous/sassy, or some other adjective that I can't put my finger on right now. They take risks, continually, cause they cut off pieces of themselves all the time (hair, not bodily, that sounded a little creepy).
Having long hair doesn't require decisions or much upkeep. You just let it grow and do you own thing, not much maintenance required. . . which makes you seem very laid back. You are very laid back cause you don't worry about your hair, and more often than not it is simply done. You don't draw attention to yourself with frequent hair changes. You can hide with long hair.
I feel less laid back now. I think I may be sassier or more spirited. Whether that is a good thing for me remains to be seen. Maybe I feel that way is because my head is lighter.
Do people with short hair have more personality to compensate for lack of hair? Maybe. The short haired people are feeling judged by the long hair people and have to shine brighter in another way. It sounds like some kind of cold war, are their hair mafias or cutesy nicknames for the sides that I am unaware of? Should I make some up. Is there a line drawn in the sand somewhere I should be toeing? Is giving this issue voice cause for me to be whacked? I don't even watch mafia shows, what the crap am I talking about. Am I making all of this up in my own head today, possibly.
Maybe they (shorties, just an idea for a nickname, nothing set yet, I'll do more research) just have more personality so they cut their hair. Their personality cannot be contained in a laid back hair style.
Considering that cutting my hair was traumatic, I think that means I fall somewhere in the personality middle. Conflicted and therefore traumatized by the process. Identity crisis. ;) Oh I hate being on the fence. I strive never to be seated on a fence post; this is uncomfortable.
OK so now you're thinking that you can't judge someone's by their hair length, we're not supposed to judge others on appearance. Right. Of course you size people up by things like that. It's called an impression. See that sound much nicer than judgment, and in this case I also think it's true.
I may be alone in this, but I have my doubts, every time I see a cute or even crazy short style I think that person is gutsy and brave, not to mention that their hair is awesome. When I see a long style I like, I think, wow that looks nice or pretty. . . no personality conclusion, just an assessment of a hairstyle. Weird.
I may be reaching here, it's just a theory born from living life on both sides and feeling a difference. It could be the heat. ;)
You have to admit that your hair says something about you. Mine, right now, perfectly shows my conflict with long and short. I need both. It is admirable, to me, those people who have short hair more often than not. As for me, I need a laid back break and easy hair from time to time. Apparently I have split personalities. ;) Watch out, I may be prone to violent transitions between the two personalities. I don't know what that will look like, I may black out for them. ;)

interior design advice
Here's how that went. . .
"Mom, do you remember that drawing I did that you said was so good? I think it would look totally awesome on the wall here. I'll go get it and you'll see. . . Yep, totally awesome, right mom?"
"Mom, I've got another one that will be perfect too. I'm almost done with it. It's a beautiful pony. . . So, what do you think?"
Anyone in need of some works of art for their home? Miley is full of great ideas. ;)

glad as I can be
A few pics from Father's Day. . . all the primary kids wore these mustaches and sang 'I'm so glad when daddy comes home' to the menfolk on Sunday. Dave said Miley's 'stache was a whole lot askew and yet she still sang with gusto. ;) I bet.
We sure do love this guy! And that 'stache is pretty sexy too.

segue, no not the scooter thing
After going back and re-reading some older blog posts I noticed that I haven't done any real writing in some time, and that made me think my blog was looking rather lame. I liked the real writing posts; they were interesting and maybe slightly disturbing for me to see inside my past mind.
I can't believe I've had nothing really to say like that in like months or more. Even worse I can't think of anything now theme-wise that would fill an entire page with fluid thought. It's all a jumbled mess of nonsense that comes pouring out when I sit here at my computer. I'm hoping that it is merely the summer and the scorching heat that is preventing the prose. I hate to think that I've lost my touch and can no longer type a complete thought in paragraph form without ~ bullet points. We'll see if I can be inspired by something again, well another time, definitely not today. I don't know how long to struggle through before calling time of death on the blog. If you notice a lack of a pulse please be a peach and point it out. At least I can still do a little alliteration. ;)
So my husband had to tell something interesting/funny/or relatively unknown about me to my class in church on Sunday. He, of course asked me what to say. I, of course, was not offended by his lack of thought on his supposedly beloved subject, mainly me. . . and did not in any way give him the stink eye or say something witty and yet biting in reply. In lieu of a comeback to my helpfulness he went to the blog and printed off an old post about myself. . . which is why I started reading old posts and remembering that I used to be better at this blogging thing.
That is the backstory and now for the randomness that is my mind these days, and warning; there will be no segues to speak of. Try to keep up. ;)
Mirror Mirror. . .They say having a four-year-old is like having your own little clone. It's the phase of mimicking on overdrive. I'm getting a glimpse of this now at 3.75. Miley is exhibiting some highly Mindy-like mannerisms. It's freaky.
I gotta admit, that I was in total denial of this behavior being a reflection of my own. I am not, well you know, like that. Then I read about this age and then my husband made some comments and now I am past denial and in another stage of the process called. . . maybe I need to keep my mouth shut or hire a nanny for awhile. ;) I don't think that's an official stage, but I'm not good at following the rules.
You're waiting for the 'for instance' aren't you? I'm not sure I'm ready to divulge those. I guess it's pointless, cause as blog stalkers/followers/friends/relatives you've all been exposed to my awesomeness (adj. : inspiring great admiration, apprehension, or fear) and nothing should surprise you at this point.
For a little girl that is most likely tone deaf, she has an amazing talent for hitting that sarcastic tone that only true adepts are capable of. I still think this may be natural talent and not a parroting of myself. I don't think I'm that talented of a sarcastic. Can that be used as a noun? Hmmmm? It is truly an art when she whips out a 'really' in that elongated way with full-force eye skepticism. I gotta say I'm a little proud at times. . . and then I need to remind myself that I should not be, cause this will come back and bite me in the butt when she's a teenager. Though she may always be shorter than I and I think I can use that to my intimidating advantage no matter her impressive skill with the words. Can a student really surpass a master? We shall see, unfortunately.
While driving miss daisy around, Miley will comment on the other drivers abilities on the road. She has a pretty good feel for the rules of the road, though her patience might be lacking a bit. She mentioned the other day that the car in front of us was starting to bug her. I agreed. Then she said it was now making her angry. ;) I told her it was ok, and she said, 'but mom they are driving sooooooo slow.' Then she may have made a reference to grandparenting and growled. I'm sure this is her own creative way of expressing herself.
Speaking of slow. . . ha I did have a segue after all . . . I'm sorry, but June is a heavy birthday month, yeah there are more to come, and I'm sure it takes longer than usual to load my blog now due to the abundance of birthday wishes here. Sorry. The good news is that I don't have any birthdays to celebrate in December, so it should all be back to normal speed then.
Thank you all for the birthday wishes. I LOVED getting them! It was an excellent day, Dave tried extra hard to wipe clean his smudged Mother's day record with this holiday. ;) I tried to reinforce that plan with doing some extra gushy things for him on Father's Day, you know, the day before my birthday. Subtle guilt trip. ;) Insert evil laugh here. Just kidding, we don't actually have competitions with our holidays, that just seems wrong. . . right?
Miley has Halloween on her mind, this might have been added into the mini me section of this post. . . she has decided, and I should probably put decided in quotes since this is her third decision on the matter, that she wants to be a zombie for Halloween. I gave her no suggestion to be such, it is her own epiphany. I actually suggested mummy, which she agreed to and asked to be a scary one with a brown wrinkly face. . . but that idea has come and gone. Now I just have to get her to decide what kind of zombie, and see if she can stick with that plan for a few more months.
I've been making my dogs food for a week now and it has been interesting. So I changed them over to a raw diet, cause it's just better for them. That means raw hamburger and hard boiled eggs, shells and all. Nice right, sounds delish. It wouldn't be too bad, except you have to put a supplement in it to add in the omega 3s and what not. . . and that stuff is primarily fish oil. I have a SEVERE reaction to fish. Oh my vomit. I blame my parents, or whoever it was cooking at that bbq when I was a child. I can't stand that smell. I stoically throw up subtly in my mouth as I prepare it for my girls. Taking one for the team here, and trying to push myself to some level of tolerance to the nasty stuff just to see if it's possible. On the positive side, this diet is already soooooo much better than the processed stuff. There is a marked difference in them already and it's only been a week. I can't wait to see how they'll be given more time on it.
We never expected to live in this house for, well forever, but it seems we'll be here for some time now. I guess this just hit us, cause now we're starting to change it up a little more. I guess you could call my pretty freaking orange office a stamp of ownership and disregard for resale value. . . and that I did before we moved in, so maybe it's just a 7-year-itch thing instead. Either way, the shelves in the once lonely alcove are complete and stocked with books and clutter that I haven't trashed yet. I know I said we couldn't build them and threw in the towel, but that was just a hiccup (my drill broke, but I learned what a chuck was in the process) that was remedied and happily not repeated. I'm loving my new rug. I'm thinking about taking down the curtains over the sliding door to brighten up the place. Dave won't let me recover the orange chair. He's grown attached to it. Aaaahhh. It actually doesn't bother me too much, so we'll see how long it's orangeness lasts. We painted a wall in our entry way, and I'm putting up new art and frames there. Oh how I love change, well this kind of change. I want to paint part of a bookcase, frames, and even my kitchen island, but we'll see how far I can go before common sense steps in and pulls the paintbrush out of my death grip.
There is a bird nesting on my roof. Should I be bothered or worried by this? I can't decide. Even though I am not a fan of birds, I feel it harsh to evict them, especially if there are babies involved, which I haven't been snoopy enough to enquire about. I'm sure birds would feel the same as people being asked about that particular thing. I'm sure they know what they are doing, but I can't help but think we may have hard boiled eggs up there shortly. It's that hot.
So Ethiopia recently made skype illegal. Is that not the craziest thing? Oh and blogspot is totally against the law too. Right now I am breaking the law in Ethiopia. I hope I didn't put any reference to my blog in my paperwork. ;) It's the usual rationalization of decreasing opponents to the regime and also reducing competition for the land phone company. Oh well, I guess we'll be taking a short skype break when we visit their country. I love you guys and all, but I don't want to spend up to 15 years in jail. Yep, 15 years, and a fine. I won't be blogging either, better safe than sorry.
Before you ask, oh wait, that really doesn't apply to many. . . ;) We haven't heard anything from Ethiopia in way of a referral yet. We'll let you know when we do. We hope it will be soon, but we're prepared for it to be later. All fingers are crossed and prayers are being said. ;) We'll call and bug the agency again if it will make you feel better.

short
Why is changing your hair length so traumatic? It's stupid, but it's true.
I now find myself in a new group. . . those who have to do their hair everyday cause a ponytail is not an option. I've actually used a blowdryer three days in a row already. Oh man.
I've been short before, I should slide into this seemingly easily. . . but the last time I cut it off off was in 2000. I'm older now, not so adept at change.
Hair touching the neck tickles and is a bit itchy. Hmmm. It likes to get in my face too.
Miley was disappointed when I came home and our hair no longer matched. You know, long and long. She asked if it would ever come back. I told her it would. Twenty minutes later she asked if it was long again yet. Nope. This is gonna be a long couple of months for her.
I like the cut, I just have to get my head around it. It alters reality in some subtle ways. I just have to figure out the new view.
My head is lighter, and I use less shampoo and conditioner. Just gotta look on the bright side, which as you know is my talent. ;) Dang, I didn't think this through.
I appreciate your positive comments, well from most of you. ;) It helps the transition.
Next time I'm thinking mohawk. . .

I can hear the bells
Musical Miley. . .
Girlie loves music, and even though she may be slightly tone deaf, she loves to sing it and has a very good ear and memory for the words.
Every time a song comes on the radio/my phone/computer, whatever, she asks what it's called and where it's from. . . . as annoying as that is, it may be my fault, cause I always ask her when a disney song plays which movie it comes from. She now thinks all songs come from movies or TV. . . and she may be right.
One day Miley came up to me and asked me if we could listen to the 'joker song'. . . and when I asked her what song she sang a few lines. . . 'I play my music in the suuuunnnnn. I'm a joker, I'm a smoker. . .' Thank you Steve Miller band. Maybe I'll have to edit my playlists better. ;)
On the other side of the coin, we were working in my office and the music was on shuffle. . . I Love to see the Temple started to play and Miley said, "Mom I love this song. I love it more than rock and roll."
Aahhhh, and then she started singing along with the next song. . . via Bob Marley. . . Three Little Birds. Her tastes are eclectic.
We had to make a rule that after you win a game you can only sing one verse of We are the Champions. Miley's new love of board/card games was the reason this rule was put on the books.
I love musicals and Miley is a big fan as well. . . which is why she sings The Muppets songs endlessly. I figured her love of musicals may be limited to just The Muppets, but when she heard some ABBA songs play she said, 'hey mom, it's Mama Mia.' That's my girl. I think it's time she is introduced to Newsies. ;)
Miley's favorite artist, however, is Adele. She ALWAYS sings along when her songs come on the radio.
