A night with the headless horseman

Time for some time on a farm.  We only do this once a year.  My girls are city kids.  Dirt, bugs, smells. . . tears.  ;)  They actually loved our Sleepy Hollow adventure.

Dave was so happy to finally experience a corn maze.  I do not have those same feelings for a corn maze, but this one was really well done so it was for the first time. . . fun.  Fah-reaky!

 We split up, Dave and Miley vs. Jovey and myself.  Jovey was more interested in losing them than finding a way out of the maze, so we came in second.  Dang it!

 We pet many horses, goats, pigs and piglets, and sheep.

Why is your face in the place of a donkey's eyes?  Weird.

They had these slides that you had to climb a huge hay bale tower to get to.  Jovey got to the top and said, "I'm terrified!"  Dave finally talked her into going down if I caught her at the bottom.  I wish I had a video of her face the whole way down.  She really was "terrified."  Miley did it multiple times however.

We took a hay ride, which was Jovey's favorite of the night.  We were followed by the headless horseman, but I didn't get his pic. Bummer.  He really freaked the girls out when he came right at them.  I may have helped that along since I was telling them he wanted their heads.

The girls tried to do some roping. . . and mostly just hit each other.  ;)

We had some yummy treats, shot a pumpkin in a sling shot, rode a train, went down some slides, through a hay maze and came home with the smell of country life on us and some straw in our hair.  ;)

Apple picking

A friend of mine has parents with an apple orchard.  After multiple invitations we finally took the opportunity to go and pick us some delicious apples.  Honey crisp!

Yes, we did this in September, but it is a fall-ish activity and we are still in fall, and I am no longer good at blogging so pretend that this is timely.  ok.  Good.

My girls LOVED this activity.  I believe we have a new tradition.  We had to pull them away from the orchard.  They would have picked the trees clean if we didn't.

 Miley was a good picker, just the right amount of choosey.  Jovey was an indiscriminate picking machine.  I had to shadow her closely.  They both ate their fill of apples in process.

 Dave got a sunburn during this outing.  I probably don't have to say that.  It's a given.  I can't take him anywhere.

We made six pies and I froze some more apple pie filling for later.  The girls ate an apple a day, at least, and only a handful went bad so I'd say it was very successful.  Better start kissing up to me now so when next year comes around you can make it on the pie list.  ;)
