a little beach

Spontaneity is not my thing. . . unless it involves going to get a dessert, I'm in.

The stars aligned one day this week so that we ended up on a little beach instead of the planned events of the day, mainly housework and gardening.  I know, sounds awesome.

Miley had class pictures and then she was done with her school, early out.  Dave had a weekday off.  Wahoooo!  We ended up at Target running errands and some beach toys caught the eye.  Epiphany.

A couple hours later we had scraped together enough crap to last us a few days and set out for some sand.

Hello beautiful day and a thrilled little girl!

Make that girls, plural.  The dogs had fun too.  The water was higher than normal, or the normal I remember.  Many a picnic table was submerged, but we found this little stretch that was perfect for our picnic/water/sand needs.

That handsome albino in the shelter is my hubby.  Yeah I know, it looks like his legs glow.  Weird.  ;)

My girls preferred laying in the wet sand.  Dave loved that part.  I couldn't blame them, the water felt great.

No sandcastles were built, but there was much digging, trench making, and starfish and lobster molds utilized.

Dave even stepped out in the sun for a second or two.

Nilla and Bear enjoyed wading in the shallows, but I couldn't entice them to swim out deeper.  Miley on the other hand was eager to swim, until it got up to her chest and she decided it was a little chillier than she anticipated.

She made us promise that we'd go back.

this kid

. . . has to measure her height/length any and everywhere.
. . . can tell you exactly how tall she is, 41 inches.
. . . measures herself with the ruler painted on her wall every night before bed.

. . . dresses up as a princess.
. . . dresses up her princess dolls as other princesses.
. . . really freaks me out in a blonde wig.

. . . is a Mama's girl who likes to draw pictures of herself with her Daddy.
. . . does not throw anything away anymore, nor does she allow me to do it.
. . . is now referred to as a Daddy's girl because of her need to keep clutter.

. . . thinks that all dresses have to be twirled a few times in the backyard with each wear.

. . . has many baby dolls, but three primary ones that she hauls around.
. . . named her babies, Miley, Chloe, and Lizzy
. . . requires that I make meals for them as well as her, and they don't always agree on what to eat.
. . . uses her old baby clothes to dress her babies, and I am regretting giving her those, since now I'm constantly changing their clothing for her.

. . . is pure sunshine and I can't get enough of her!

Goldilocks

Miley sleeps in a toddler bed.  A toddler bed that she is fast reaching the limits of.  Dave and I pointed this out to her and mildly suggested thinking about sleeping in a bigger bed.  She's not great with change when it comes to her space or routines so with only a few inches to spare we thought we better start warming her up to the idea.

Surprisingly she happily and quickly agreed. . . we were stunned, and then she said, 'will I sleep on Daddy's side or on Mommy's side?'

Keep dreaming kiddo.  I selfishly hog all the space on the big bed for myself.

Miss Independent

Dang you Kelly Clarkson and your song that is stuck in my head now.

So kiddo is three and 1/2, we have to add the half cause she is so sure she is getting big enough to do everything by herself.  It sounds so much older.

She cooks her own meals of birthday cake and banana and chicken soup.  OK, that may be pretend cooking, but I'm sure she wouldn't mind giving the real thing a try on her own.

Dressing herself, and picking out her own clothes is very important.  I don't mind so much, even when she ends up like this. . .

Oops, that is backward.  She didn't mind either.  This way she kept the pretty front of her shirt free of food spills.  She's so smart.  ;)

Today she wore her yellow shirt dress with her pink leggings and green shoes.  Spring is in the air I guess.  Lately it is a constant request for dresses and pink. . . which means she can wear it one day a week. . . thats all we got folks.  ;)  I guess I could stock up some more for her, even though I die a little when I purchase anything pink.  I want her to be herself and express herself anyway she wants, so I'll suck it up and send Dave to do the purchasing.  ;)

Now I know how you feel Mom, when you wanted to dress me head to toe in frilly ruffles, ribbons, bows, and flowers. . . and I chose a different style.  Thanks for not making me wear that stuff.  Shudder.

At least she made a pirate windsock.

hot flashes

I turned the heater on today. . . so we could eat our frozen custard and well, not freeze.  All the fans have been on this week to keep the heat at bay.  It's raining outside right now you see, something that happens infrequently here. . . and is why Dave is wearing his jacket indoors and won't let Miley put her cold little hands on his warm belly.  I taught her that, to torture Dave.  It's fun.

I should be planning my lesson for tomorrow, well making sure it makes sense, but I'm full of frozen custard and can't stop thinking about throwing it up.  ;)  Not that I want to; I wouldn't waste that deliciousness like that.  Coconut and cashews, mmmmm.

Instead I'm on the blog filling space. . . here are some pics from a nice warm/slightly breezy day this past week.  Miley made a windsock in school.  I asked her about the foam stickers she put on it, and she proudly told me she picked all the skeletons.  What a goof.  I heart her.  ;)

. . . So she took her pirate windsock out for some laps in the backyard and I took a dozen or more photos of it all.

We've been singing 'rain rain go away' a lot so we can, fingers crossed, do this again tomorrow.

five words tell a story

Stumbled onto this site that has all this word art.  It was fun to look through, cause, well I love fonts and graphic design, but also some of them resonated as well.

These in particular kind of tell the story of what's always on the back of my mind. . . and Miley's.
A little bit of Africa.
